Grand Reopening

angels-flight

Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, Angels Flight is a funicular railway that takes people up (or down) the giant hill between Hill St. and California Plaza.

Angels Flight was built in 1901 and originally went from Hill St. to Olive St. until 1969 when it switched to the path it takes today. It has been a popular tourist stop, but it was originally built for business professionals who did not want to trek up the large hills in downtown Los Angeles everyday. This iconic Los Angeles landmark has also made appearances in movies and television shows including The Muppets, Biggest LoserThe Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies, and La La Land.

However, in 2001, Angels Flight was closed following a fatal accident. After a brief reopening from 2010-2013, Angels Flight will once again be reopening on Thursday August 31 at 9:30am.

For just $1 you can purchase a one-way ticket up or down this historic funicular railway. Also, right across the street from the bottom of Angels Flight is Grand Central Market, so make sure to stop there for a meal!
