The Best Egg Sandwich in L.A.

egg-slut

Every foodie in L.A. has heard about Egg Slut. Founded in 2011, Egg Slut has made a name for itself with their beautiful egg sandwiches and extremely long lines. Egg Slut has locations in Grand Central Market, Venice, Glendale, and one in Las Vegas.

Egg Slut, Venice: Exterior

Egg Slut lines are infamous and people are willing to wait upwards of an hour for a sandwich. However, I went to their Venice location at 10:30am on a Tuesday, and there was practically no line! But even going to the restaurant at a time most people don’t eat out, it was still packed!

Egg Slut, Venice: Interior

I ordered the ‘Sausage, Egg & Cheese’ sandwich and some fresh squeezed orange juice. The sandwich is made with house-made turkey sausage, an over medium egg, cheddar cheese and a honey mustard aioli all on a brioche bun. I have to admit, it lived up to the hype. I have been dreaming about this egg sandwich ever since I went a couple weeks ago. The brioche bun is shiny and delicious and the sausage is so flavorful, but the real star of the show is the egg. I usually like over easy eggs, but it was so brilliant to put over medium eggs on the sandwich because you still get the lovely oozy-ness of over easy eggs, but it’s a little less messy for a handheld sandwich. You could tell all of the ingredients were very high quality and all of the individual components of the sandwich worked together to create the best egg sandwich I’ve ever had.

Next time I go I think I want to try the ‘Fairfax’ sandwich, which includes scrambled eggs, chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and sriracha mayo all on a brioche bun. Or maybe I’ll try their specialty, the ‘slut,’ which includes a coddled egg on top of potato purée, poached in a glass jar and topped with gray salt and chives, served with a few baguette slices.
