All Natural Mexican Ice Cream

la-michoacana

La Michoacana is a Mexican ice cream parlor that makes fresh, natural ice cream and popsicles. I went to one in Reseda, but there are La Michoacana ice cream parlors all over Los Angeles. You walk into the shop to find a long counter and a looong line. You pull a number from a machine right when you walk in and everyone is leaning up against the counter waiting for their turn. Even though the line may be intimidated, don’t worry too much, it moves pretty quickly, plus it give you time to decide what to order!

La Michoacana: Reseda

They have dozens of lovely natural ice creams and sorbets and more than 70 flavors of homemade popsicles! They have more ‘traditional’ flavors like Chocolate, Strawberry, and Coconut, but they also have traditional Mexican flavors like Mango Chamoy and Spicy Pineapple. As tempting as all of the ice cream and popsicles sound, I decided to go with one of their specialties, Mangonada.

Mangonada is made with mango ice cream, chamoy sauce, mangos, lime juice, and tajin. I have never had mangonada before, and it was soooo good!! The mango ice cream was my favorite, it tasted fresh and sweet just like a mango! I also really enjoyed the addition of the chamoy sauce, tajin, and lime juice which added sour and salty notes to the ice cream. There were also little candies on top that were chewy and sour and so yummy! I will say, I don’t think this dessert is for everyone. I love putting tajin, the Mexican seasoning that is salty and sour, on fruit. It is especially good on watermelon and mango. If you don’t like tajin, you probably won’t like a mangonada. However, there is still so much more for you at La Michoacana! I am definitely trying a popsicle next time I go!
