Milk

Milk is an ice cream parlor and bake shop founded in Los Angeles. They currently have two locations, one in Silver Lake and one on Beverly. I’ve been to the location in Silver Lake a few times, but I haven’t been to the one on Beverly yet. Be prepared to search for street parking if you’re going to the location in Silver Lake.

All of their products are handcrafted and they use locally sourced produce and dairy. Milk’s website claims that they aim to evoke a nostalgia for ice cream parlors of the past, but I’d argue that theirs is actually a more modern approach to an ice cream parlor.

Milk, Silver Lake

Most notably, is their interpretation of an ice cream sandwich. Milk has become “insta-famous” for their very photographable macaron ice cream sandwiches. They offer a variety of flavors, including Fruity Pebbles, Salted Caramel, Thai Tea, California Strawberry, and Grasshopper (the one I got). But the ice cream sandwiches aren’t just cute, they’re really yummy too! The macaron cookie shell adds a nice crunch and actually has pretty impressive structural integrity. I’m also always a fan of the flavor combo of mint and chocolate, so I was very happy with my sandwich.

Milk also allows you to make custom ice cream sandwiches using their homemade cookies! On another trip, I opted for the Tres Leches ice cream sandwiched between two Butterscotch Chocolate Chip Pretzel cookies. It was so good! And it’s a fun opportunity to be creative with flavors. This sandwich does require a little more finesse to eat neatly, or a lot more napkins.

If you’re more of a traditionalist, they also sell regular scoops of their ice cream as well as shakes and sundaes.

Everything I’ve tried at Milk has been delicious, I can’t wait to go back!
