Pasta Sisters

There are a lot of great places to get pasta in Los Angeles. I might even argue that I have not had a bad plate of pasta, all pasta is good pasta. But inarguably, one of my favorite places to get really, really good pasta is Pasta Sisters. Founded in 2014 by Paola Da Re, who came to Los Angeles from Padova, Italy, Pasta Sisters specializes in affordable, homemade pasta and homemade sauces.

Pasta Sisters: Exterior

Located in a little strip mall in Mid City off of the 10, Pasta Sisters is misleadingly unassuming from the exterior. When you walk into the small storefront, you are greeted with a bustling little restaurant that sits no more than 15 people. You order at the counter, and then seat yourself and wait for your food to be brought to you.

At Pasta Sisters, you choose a pasta base (spaghetti, tagliatelle, pappardelle, penne, or gnocchi) and then you get to choose the sauce you want paired with your pasta (pesto, bolognese, arrabbiata, tomato & basil, three cheeses, porcini mushroom, salmon, clams, bottarga, or truffle). This makes for dozens of pasta/sauce combination possibilities!

I’ve eaten at Pasta Sisters twice. The first time I got Gnocchi with Pesto and the second time I got Tagliatelle Bolognese with a side of roasted broccoli. Everything was sooo yummy! I thoroughly enjoyed the gnocchi with pesto, the gnocchi was soft and chewy and the pesto packed a lot of flavor in each bite!

But the true test of a pasta joint, to me, is how well they make Tagliatelle Bolognese. In college I studied abroad in Bologna, Italy, the birthplace of Tagliatelle Bolognese, so I have a lot of opinions about this dish. Pasta Sisters makes a really good Tagliatelle Bolognese. The pasta is thick and chewy and the sauce is packed with meat and flavor! I also really liked the roasted broccoli if you want to get in some veggies.

Pasta Sisters also has another location in Culver City, that I have yet to go to. Pasta is comfort food, and it doesn’t get much more comforting than Pasta Sisters. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their homemade sauces and fresh pastas!
