Pizzana

pizzana

Pizzana is a swanky pizza spot off San Vicente in Brentwood. Frequented by celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner, Pizzana offers fun flavor combinations using classic, Italian methods. Opened by the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, Pizzana has quickly become a staple in the LA food world. It even made Jonathan Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles list!

The restaurant itself is a cool mix of LA and Italy. It’s a place you’d want to hang out for a while with friends, sipping wine and eating pizza. It has an industrial-style, but is softened by blue and white tile that gives the whole joint a Mediterranean feel. It’s a small restaurant, so the wait time can be atrocious during peak hours, but don’t worry! Pizzana recently started offering pizza to go!

Pizzana To-Go

When I went, I order the the Neo Margherita pizza and the Cacio e Pepe pizza. Honestly, I could not decide which was my favorite, they were both so good! The Neo Margherita is the classic flavor, and the pizza that Jonathan Gold compared to the best pizzas in the world. It is made with San Marzano dop “poppa” (which are tomatoes that are certified as being from San Marzano), fior di latte (which is mozzarella cheese), basil crumbs, parmesan, and basil. The crust is thin (like all the crusts at Pizzana) and made with flour imported from Italy. The dough is left to ferment for 2-days and is cooked in an authentic Italian pizza oven for a beautiful thin and crunchy crust.

The Cacio e Pepe is also phenomenal! “Cacio e pepe’ means “cheese and pepper” in Italian and this pizza does not disappoint on either front. It is made with the same fior di latte as the first pizza, provoloncino di agerola (which is another type of cheese from Campania, Italy), parmesan, and cracked black pepper. The pizza is rich without being overpowering and the pepper adds just the right amount of bite.

I can’t wait to go back and try even more flavors!
