Salt & Straw

Originally founded in Portland, Salt and Straw has cemented itself as an LA hot spot staple, since they opened their first SoCal location in 2014. Salt and Straw specializes in unique ice cream flavors using locally sourced ingredients.

Currently, there are locations in West Hollywood, Downtown LA, Studio City, Venice, and Larchmont. Most recently, I went to the location in Venice. It is located right on Abbot Kinney, so you’ll need to circle for street parking in the surrounding area.

Because of their dedication to using only fresh, local ingredients, the menu periodically changes at Salt & Straw, so don’t get too attached to any one flavor. They do have a few cult classics they keep on the menu year round. You order at the counter and the employees let you try as many of the flavors as your heart desires!

I got a split scoop with Honey Lavender ice cream and Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, both are part of the “classic” Los Angeles menu. I’ve also enjoyed Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, James Coffee & Bourbon, and Double Fold Vanilla along with a variety of seasonal flavors.

All of Salt & Straw’s ice cream flavors are carefully thought out and taste rich and complex. It’s easily one of my favorite ice creameries in Los Angeles!
