Cheap, Delicious Sushi

sushi-stop

If you’ve heard of Sushi Stop it’s probably because it’s really cheap, but is it any good? I love sushi and I usually make it a practice to not eat super cheap raw fish, but I made an exception for Sushi Stop. I’m glad I did! Granted, it wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had in my entire life, but it was very good sushi.

Sushi Stop N. Sawtelle Interior

Sushi Stop has six locations throughout L.A., and I went to their West L.A. location on N. Sawtelle. Parking in that area is always just street parking, so bring quarters if you want to park close, or you can park for free in one of the neighboring neighborhoods.

Sushi Stop Salmon and Yellowtail Sushi

I ordered salmon and yellowtail sushi, which are two of my favorites, and one of their specialty rolls. ‘Sushi’ is a piece of raw fish over rice, sometimes with wasabi on the rice. Sushi Stop does not put wasabi on their sushi, but it was provided on the side, so I was able to add some. The size of the fish pieces on the sushi were actually pretty generous, especially considering the price. It also tasted like very high-quality fish! None of the pieces were fatty and they didn’t taste overly fish-y (which may sound funny, but yellowtail and salmon are both pretty mild fish so they shouldn’t taste like you’re eating the ocean). The specialty roll I ordered was spicy tuna and tempura. It was also very yummy! It only came with four pieces, and sushi rolls usually come in eight. That being said, I thought the roll tasted very good. I always love a good spicy tuna and the addition of tempura added some fun flavor and crunch.

Sushi Stop Spicy Tuna and Tempura Roll

After ordering one specialty roll and 2 orders of sushi my bill was a grand total of $10.66. With tip, I only paid about $13 for sushi! If you’re not a big sushi eater, you might not know how astounding that is, so just to put it into perspective I usually easily eat $25-$30 worth of sushi for a meal. I didn’t eat less than I usually do so the sushi really was significantly less expensive and still really delicious. Sushi Stop only accepts cash, so be prepared for that.
