The Pie Hole

The Pie Hole is a gourmet pie and coffee shop based in Los Angeles. The menu of classic and quirky pies changes seasonally and they have both sweet and savory pies. The Pie Hole started as a small family business founded by a mother and son, but they now have 5 Los Angeles locations, 3 national locations, and 2 international locations! The pies are baked from scratch, by hand, using fresh, high quality ingredients. They sell the pies by the slice or whole pies to order. However, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, they are now selling whole pies in store leading up to Thanksgiving.

When I went to the Hollywood location, I tried Drunk in Plum (which I named!), Mexican Chocolate, Cereal Killer Cheesecake, Alexander Yamilton, and Moe’s Pumpkin Pie. The Hollywood location has limited seating, so I wouldn’t plan on spending a long time in store.

Drunk in Plum is made with bourbon-soaked plums, praline pecans and spices filled into the classic butter crust. Mexican Chocolate is cinnamon spiced chocolate filling on graham cracker crust with espresso-infused, house-made whipped cream. Cereal Killer Cheesecake is made with their classic cheesecake filling with cinnamon on a graham cracker crust with cinnamon toast crunch on top (there is also one with fruity pebbles)! Alexander Yamilton is made in honor of the musical Alexander Hamilton, which is playing right across the street from their Hollywood location at the Pantages (https://www.lavitabloger.com/the-pantages-theatre/). If you bring your ticket to the musical with you to the Pie Hole’s Hollywood location, you get 15% off the pie. It is made with yam puree and cream cheese filing topped with maple and rum infused whipped cream in their classic butter crust. Moe’s Pumpkin Pie is a 4th generation recipe from Great-Grandma Moe.

All of the pies were wonderful! Moe’s Pumpkin Pie is a delicious, classic pumpkin pie, but my favorites were the more unusual pies. I’m not usually a huge fan of cereal, but I loved the Cereal Killer Cheesecake. I love cheesecake and I thought the addition of cinnamon toast crunch made a classic really exciting. The Alexander Yamilton and Drunk in Plum were also really fun, unique, delicious pies. Alexander Yamilton was creamy and delicious and Drunk in Plum is full of flavor and the pecans add a nice texture. But my favorite was the Mexican Chocolate! I love spiced chocolate and the pie was very flavorful and a fun twist on a classic chocolate pie.

The Pie Hole is a great place for traditional pies or fun, unique pies. Next time I go, I definitely want to try a savory pie!
